It’s unclear if the 12-time All-Star will play for Toronto.
Chris Paul was traded from the Los Angeles Clippers to the Toronto Raptors in a three-team deal also involving the Brooklyn Nets.
According to ESPN’s Shams Chanariathe Nets will receive a Raptors 2032 second-round pick, guard Ochai Agbaji and cash as part of the trade.
Paul is not yet required to report to Raptors facilities, and the 12th time NBA All-Star could be traded again before Thursday’s deadline.
Paul and the Clippers agreed to end his second stint with the team in December. He has reportedly not been on speaking terms with head coach Ty Lue for several weeks.
The 40-year-old has only played in 16 games for Los Angeles this season, averaging 2.9 points and 3.3 assists per game.
The trade allows Toronto to exit the luxury tax while freeing up $7 million in salary for the Clippers. In Agbaji, the Nets have a player who shot career highs from the field (49.8%) and three-point range (39.9%) last season. Playing just 15 minutes per game this season, Agbaji is averaging 4.3 points and 2.3 rebounds overall. Receiving cash helps Brooklyn cover his salary.
Paul plans to retire at the end of the season. It remains to be seen where he will end his rich career.
