“Thank you San Francisco. You’ve been great hosts this week, but tonight belongs to the Seahawks and the 12,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said.
The Seattle Seahawks manhandled the New England Patriots for a 29-13 victory in Super Bowl LX. This is the Seahawks’ second Super Bowl victory and first since 2013.
Seattle’s defense looked fierce in this win. They forced three turnovers and also scored a touchdown on a 44-yard interception return.
Running back Kenneth Walker III was named Super Bowl MVP, making him the first running back to win the award since Terrell Davis did so in 1998. He totaled 135 yards on the ground on 27 carries and another 26 yards through the air.
For quarterback Sam Darnold, it completed arguably the greatest redemption arc in National Football League history. After being labeled a bust following his departure from the New York Jets in 2021, he became a Super Bowl-winning quarterback by throwing for 202 yards and a touchdown.
Receiver Cooper Kupp turned back the clock and had a great game. On a night where Offensive Player of the Year Jaxon Smith-Njigba struggled and dealt with injuries, Kupp led Seattle with six receptions for 61 receiving yards.
Conversely, it was a disappointing Super Bowl for Patriots quarterback Drake Maye, who missed open targets all night and was responsible for all three of the team’s turnovers. Maye’s passer rating of 79.1 was his second-lowest mark of the season.
After being beaten by Seattle, the Patriots now have the most Super Bowl losses in NFL history with six.
Meanwhile, the Seahawks returned to the top of the mountain by beating the team that beat them in the Big Game 11 years ago. They managed to overcome their demons and win Super Bowl LX by being arguably the best team in the NFL. They finished the season with a 17-3 record and an average margin of victory of 18.3 points in the playoffs.
