Pep Guardiola says each passing season gets harder to compete at the top of the Premier League table.
Manchester City face champions Liverpool on Sunday, still hoping to draw Arsenal, who start the weekend six points ahead.
Guardiola, 55, has won the title six times but says it is becoming increasingly difficult to win.
He said: “Every season it gets more and more difficult, but I think not just for us, for all the teams.
“We’re improving in moments, we just need a little more consistency and we’ll be there.”
“So there are 14 games left, in the Premier League it’s an eternity. In my experience it’s a lot and anything can happen.
“Last season in the Premier League we were miles away from Liverpool, so let’s see if we will be there.”
Guardiola was asked about his future but simply said he had one year left on his contract.
The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager won more than 30 honors during his coaching career and secured another this week. Final place in the League Cup.
He said: “If you want to be a manager you better always win trophies. You don’t always get the chance to play good football. I think it’s all linked because as a manager when you win you almost always play well.
“You want your players to win in the best way for the players that you have, to play the way that you believe in your soul. I think that’s the most important thing.”
